Gandhiji..We miss you :(

It’s been over 62 years we are living with out you. We miss you a lot. But the path you have set for us will be remembered, in the hearts of millions of people around the world, for the generations to come.

I still remember me asking my dad Who is Gandhi thatha?”. I think I was 4 years old at that time. (thatha means grand pa in Telugu)

The answer I got from my dad was “Gandhi Thata means Truth. Ahimsa is called Gandhi. I am your father. Similarly, Gandhi Thatha is the father of India. He is the father to me, mom, sis, your friends, your teachers and all of us. He brought freedom to our country

The answer is the one of the best answers I got for the question “Who is Gandhi?”

Recently, I was chatting with my friend in g-talk. We were talking on everything under the sun and I asked him “Who is Gandhi thatha?”

This is what opinion he has on Gandhi and I was really…really disappointed on hearing it and that too from an Indian.

Gandhi is shit I say. The silence of good men is more dangerous than the brutality of bad men but silence should be in an identified way. Well what I can say is silence has delayed the Indian independence because of Satyam and Ahimsha. We really need people like Bhagath Singh, Sukh Dev and Raj Guru, Iqbal, Ismail and others. But not the system of what Gandhiji has brought to us like corruption, laziness, black money, irresponsible government employees.”

I said to him seriously “Don’t talk rubbish. Read his auto biography or at least read what other people wrote on Gandhi”.

To which, he replied “Hmm…Well then you need to read the autobiography of Nautharem Godse. I don’t like Gandhi. You know how many people got killed because of Gandhi. He released around 8 lakh people from jail….but he couldn’t do it for Bhagath Singh gang. Whatever might be the situation when half of the India is for Bhagath Singh he should have released him. Moreover if ahimsa is correct, why do we make nuclear weapons? Why do we waste money? Why Kargil war? Why not use Gandhain way of ahimsa and defeat Pakistan? Gandhiji is a waste fellow.”

I was really disappointed by the answers he gave him. I immediately closed the chat.

What a pathetic situation? When the world is praising Gandhi, we are just making him the cause of all the evils in the society we see today. When other countries are trying to follow the path he showed to the world, we are just going the other way, just creating chaos by violence. When will we change?

You may have a no good opinion on Gandhi. May be, it’s due to the people who made you understand who was Gandhi. It may be due to the lack of proper knowledge on our Indian Independence and its history. Whatever might be the reason, please…please don’t ever talk or show case Gandhi as a bad man. I am not asking you to praise Gandhi. I am just asking you to respect the old man at least for his age, let alone what he has done to our country and to us.

Gandhi thatha, I miss you today, tomorrow and the days to come. But I swear I would never ever miss the inspiration you gave to us, the path you showed us. We miss you Gandhi thatha. We miss you a lot.

You must be the change you want to see in the world.” – Gandhi.

Lots of love…

P.S. Jan 30 1948 , the day Gandhiji left us.I hate Jan 30. I hate him for dying and leaving us alone at the feet of freedom of India. I hate you Gandhi..I hate you for leaving us :(

sunil its great to see some young guns like u to think abt gandhi…
emo i dont think now to read all the stuff of gandhi…..
but i can say one thing….
friends from the past 62 years we r only talking abt one leader saying “gandhi as a great leader”…..but our country having more than 110cr population is not having no other leaders to hav as inspiration to all…..till now we r looking at some great freedom fighters for inspiration…in this 62 years of freedom we dont hav such leaders or we r not recognizing him…..
i will say we r not recognizing them for sure…..
    this is wat i feel
anyway thanks sunil for giving me the opertunity to share my feelings

    • Charan: Thanks a ton. Yes in a way u are correct. We need more people like Gandhi for us to take inspiration. Leaders like Nehru, Lal bahadur Sastri have set high standards. After them the standards were adulterated and diluted completely. Politics have become a money earning area. And its time for us to change cos “You must be the change you want to see in the world.” as said by Gandhi :)

A very emotional write up indeed. Gandhi is as relevant today as he was then. If anything he’s more relevant today. Had people like him been around we would not have seen clashes between the western hemisphere and Islam, so to speak. Or even between Hindus and Muslims. Yeah, we need a gandhi today. And since all of us are writing about him, here’s the link to my write up on Gandhi.

  5. Sush : Nice to see you here . Yes, If Gandhi or people of his thoughts would have been there, we would not have 911 and the aftermath war on islam by western world, 26/11 and hindu muslim riots . Who knows, he may provide a solution to Indo Pak relations or the 1948 Kashmir issue. We seriously miss people like him…

“I said to him seriously “Don’t talk rubbish. Read his auto biography or at least read what other people wrote on Gandhi”.”

I have read the autobiography of Gandhi and then I decided not to read any other’s autobiographies from then on. Autobiographies are just interpretations of what the author feels about himself. And, every human being feels that he is a good human being. If Nathuram Godse has ever written an autobiography, that book shall also be the same as Experiments with Truth. It wouldn’t be a surprise if it is also called as “Experiments with Truth”.

On a particular day, one accident revealed every bad thing about Tiger Woods. Till one second before that accident, he was a celebrity and a good human being and a great sportsman. Great men are the people who has the efficiency to hide bad things about themselves. Not that they are good people. And just by reading what other people write about a particular human being, one can never understand another.

“When the world is praising Gandhi, we are just making him the cause of all the evils in the society we see today”

How come a man who lived in the 1930′s has anything to do with the evils in the society we see today?? .. no matter how strong might be the person, there would simply be any influence of him on the good or bad things that happen now…

“When other countries are trying to follow the path he showed to the world,…”

Who are the countries that are following Gandhism or Ahimsa these days?

“You may have a no good opinion on Gandhi. May be, it’s due to the people who made you understand who was Gandhi.”

Everything we understand is just because of what people has taught you.. or you have learned from those people..

How would it be if your father has told you that Gandhi is not a good person when you asked him that question? Most likely, you wouldn’t have written a post like this now…

“I am not asking you to praise Gandhi. I am just asking you to respect the old man at least for his age, let alone what he has done to our country and to us…”

If we need to respect someone at least for his age, then we might as well celebrate the birth dates and the death dates of all the old people who lived in this country and declare a national holiday on every such birthday.

    Finally, one thing to say…

There are no Good or bad men in this world. Its the interpretations who make them good or bad. I wouldn’t really get angry with someone who write a post like this: ” I love Godse…”…

    • Satya..i knew you would comment on this for sure…I know you are pro-Godse ..

“I have read the autobiography of Gandhi and then I decided not to read any other’s autobiographies from then on”…Did u really read it??? i dont think so. or atleast did u read any books written on him by other people..I am once again asking u not to praise gandhi..i just want you to know about him before you make any statements on him.

“Great men are the people who has the efficiency to hide bad things about themselves”…i am sure that you did not read gandhi’s autobiography. Cos he had written his true feeling in that book. Who has the dare to write that he had sexual feel of making love with his wife jus before his death of father, when his father was on bed. this shows that statement made by you may be a good example in other case, but i am afraid it can not be with Gandhi.

“When the world is praising Gandhi, we are just making him the cause of all the evils in the society we see today”…i have heard many people taking that indo -Pak relations were in this situation because of gandhi, had he not supported the partition. Have nt you?? by the way….what is indian govt doing for 63 yrs??? it is said that hindu-muslim relations in india is in great harmony and this is because of only one man..that is gandhi…the way he made his principles to go into people made Hindus – Muslims bhai-bhai.

” no matter how strong might be the person, there would simply be any influence of him on the good or bad things that happen now…” hehe..my friend are u in India??? just switch on TV for a day and tell me whether u hear his name atleast once or not??? this alone explains his influence today…

“Who are the countries that are following Gandhism or Ahimsa these days?”…South Africa is the example which got its Independence through ahimsa and satyagrah. martin Luther king who worked fhr the black rights followed ahimsa and Gandhian principles. Dalia lama is now fighting againist China and raising voice againist it through Gandhian principles. Even Obama said that he would like to have a lunch with gandhi if he get a chance…

“If we need to respect someone at least for his age, then we might as well celebrate the birth dates and the death dates of all the old people who lived in this country and declare a national holiday on every such birthday.”..Go ahead..no one is gona stop you..this is a democratic country…but tell me how many people can u make to celebrate such birthdays that you are mentioning…hardly no one expect you…

So my friend..stop trying to be different from others by saying what you have written above…i really rewcommend you to read about him before u comment on him or his principles…

violence can just delay the problem and that’s temporary but the treatment of non-violence can cure any diseases of bad.([permenant i neednt say])…
Bad people are bad bcz they have bad in them.. just cure that bad they will be good..

  8. @Devesh: Hey buddy..i completely agree with what u say…its been really nice of u to express ur views here :) keep visiting

  9. Prasanth says:

Good one. People are so much influenced by western culture without knowing or understanding what our Rishis has taught us ages before. People need to know about the origin of India and its Culture to know more about Gandhiji!

We all are children who are unaware of who we are and the TRUTH about ourselves….we need to find that ourselves with the help of many Gurus who have showed us the path! Vedas – “SnadanaDharma” is the root of everything! Those who understand Bapuji are better children who are in this path of realizing the path…..The Path of Truth…

Even by “Freedom” there is a much more bigger meaning than just physical freedom…which very few understand…

  10. Prasanth says:

Gandhji lives in our lifes and we have a lot in the making! :) Our roots are Vedas and Upnishads…and I assume that was our Bapuji’s Guru too! Jai hind!

    • Prashanth…yup really true….how many of us have actually took interest to look into our history n culture? And moreover, most of us are in a trans tht knowin history n culture abt an european or either of americas is somethin like fashion or cool dude…. Knowin is not a bad one, but veiwin ours as a secondary grade is a worst thin one can do. Uphold our values, uphold our culture…Jai hind…Jai Gandhi Mahatma :)

and you say your friend may have formed opinion of Gandhi from people. I definitely don`t think he was 4 when he opined so. so your opinion is more prone to be flawed.

Respect the old man for his age? that means all the bad people of previous century should be respected.

    coming to facts about Gandhi
do you know he slept naked with his nieces to check his self-restraint? perversion at its peak
